Images

This page provides links to sites which specialise in good quality or particularly interesting images of Egyptian archaeological sites. There are thousands of photographs on the Internet, and I have only selected sites that offer photographs that are not common elsewhere, or that I thought might be of use to those specifically intereseted in archaeology.

If you are looking for images to use yourself you should check out the copyright status of the images with the site’s developer.

The Pyramids of Egypt
http://egyptphoto.ncf.ca/index.htm
Beautiful photographs, often with excellent plans, of Egypt’s pyramids, as well as some photographs of the Western Desert, the Egyptian Museum and others.

The Theban Mapping Project
http://www.thebanmappingproject.com/
The Theban Mapping Project is a splendid enterprise and a offers unrivalled information on the subject of the Valley of the Kings including an enormous number of photographs of the tombs, both modern and old. It is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the New Kingdom necropolis.

John Bodsworth’s Egypt Archive
http://www.egyptarchive.co.uk/html/index.html
One of the most useful photographic resources for the pyramids of Ancient Egypt on the Internet, and its owner, Jon Bodsworth, not only has his contact details on the site but actually answers emails with helpful information :-). The main areas he has covered so far are Giza, Abusir, Dashur, Meidum, Abu Rawash and Saqqara, and he also has a section of photographs from different museums. He specialises on focusing on specific details rather than general views, which is particuarly useful.

Tour Egypt

The Tour Egypt website is an excellent source of tourist information and details about ancient monuments throughout Egypt, and also has some very good photographs which illustrate its descriptions.

Egypt: Western and Eastern Deserts (including Wadi Hammamat), Thebes and Giza
http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~andie
This site is consists almost exclusively of photographs taken on a holiday to Egypt in 2002, and has a very large number of photographs of sites from the Old Kingdom to Coptic periods, some of which are not often seen on other web sites.  It also has photos of the geomorphology of the Western Desert. To navigate the site you will need to look at the text on the home page which provides links to the sites (the side-bar menu is organised by days of the holiday, so is not of much use to anyone who was not on the holiday - it was designed for the others who were on the holiday). NB - it MUST be viewed from a broadband connection - the images take far too long to load on dial-up.

Prehistoric and Predynastic Images
www.predynastic.cd2.com
This site compliments the predynastic.com website and shows prehistoric and predynastic artefacts in British museum collections (The British Museum, The Petrie, and The Ashmolean). The photographs were taken with a small and inexpensive digital camera through glass cabinets, and are of variable quality, but provide a chronological virtual gallery of the early Egyptian past.

Vous pouvez sélectionner, par site, de nombreuses images de ces visites.”
